THREAD ARTS

Whether you want to sew, embroider, overlock, coverstitch or work with heavy duty items like leather, we’ve got you covered! All machines are new or have been recently cleaned and oiled as of May 2025. 

HackPGH carries a plethora of thread types for its members and classes to use:

  • 120+ Coats & Clark All Purpose Thread
  • 100+  Brother Embroidery Thread
  • 80+ spools of Sulky Embroidery thread
  • 20+ colors of Maxi-Lock Serger thread  (four of  each color)
  • 20+ colors of Wooly Nylon Stretch thread (two or more of  each color)

Our new soft arts cabinets are filled with needles, bobbins, specialty shears (including lefties!) glue, bias tape & bias tape makers, haberdashery, fabrics, and just about every other accessory you can think of to complete your latest project.

Description & Features: 

HackPGH’s oldest sewing machine, this mechanical workhorse has 73 built-in sewing and quilting stitches. It has a built-in needle threader, one-step button-holer, and bobbin winding system for ease of use!

Machine type:

Mechanical Sewing Machine

Description & Features: 

With a design paying homage to vintage machines, this mechanical sewing machine has a durable metal frame and powerful motor allowing it to work with almost any fabric. It has 32 built-in stitches, an automatic needle threader, and one-step button-holer.

Designed for educational purposes, this heavy duty machine was built to last with its metal inner frame. The powerful motor allows it to easily handle heavier fabrics like denim and canvas. Thanks to its adjustable presser foot, the Scholastic can also handle thin sheers as well. This mechanical machine has eleven built-in stitches, including a four-step button-holer.

From leather to upholstery to canvas – even marine vinyl – the Cowboy can handle any material up to a quarter of an inch! This machine is built into its own mobile sewing table with foot pedal base, and has functions like fully operational reverse, adjustable thread tensions both top and bottom, adjustable presser foot tensions, and adjustable stitch length. Our dedicated laptop computer is equipped with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft 365, Hatch Digitizer 3, PE Maker 11, and Cricut Design space with a Cricut Access subscription. It can be used with Fabrication Arts’ monitor to help see finer details!
